Modern buyers also favor open kitchens; open floor plans; and outdoor living components, such as screened porches, exterior kitchens, and two-way fireplaces. Additionally, the environment is increasingly important, with today's prospects seeking out elements such as triple-glazed windows and energy-efficient appliances.
Repurposed materials matter, too. Buyers in 2011…

The ride brings 2,000 cyclists to Steamboat for a pair of days. Steamboat is the only stop with two overnight stays. According to the Steamboat Springs Chamber Resort Association’s lodging barometer, 41 percent of available lodging pillows in town were expected to be full Wednesday, compared with just 21 percent on the same day last year. Mortgage rates, which fell to 4.55% for the week ending June 2, according to Freddie Mac, are near 50-year lows. Homes have become more affordable than they have been in years: According to Moody's Analytics, the ratio of home prices to income is now 20.9% lower than the 15-year average through 2010, and 12.5% lower than the…

But the Steamboat Springs Town Challenge Mountain Bike Race Series race director and trails coordinator for Routt County Riders did her best knife job this past week in preparation for the opening of the 2011 series. Sehler spent most of last week finding ridable trails on Howelsen. The 2011 Town Challenge Series will open today with the Howelsen Cross-Country. “We’ve never done this much last minute,” said Sehler, after the series was delayed a couple of weeks because trails were still wet. “But it’s what I love to do.” Children’s races begin at 5:30 p.m., with the women’s novice division set to go at 5:45 p.m. The pro/open races begin at 6:05 p.m., with other divisions going off in one- or two-minute…
