Growing up in Long Beach, California, I always knew I would one day live in the Mountains of Colorado. In 1977, after attending the University of California Santa Barbara, my husband Jerry and I moved to Steamboat Springs to fulfill that dream. In 1979 we, along with a partner, opened Mattie Silks, a restaurant we owned and operated for 22 years. Jerry and I have now moved into the development and real estate businesses of Steamboat Springs. Jerry and his partners´ company, VGS Enterprises, are the developers for Anglers Retreat, a development of 16 single family homes here in Steamboat Springs and Graystone on The Green a development of 18 single family home sites on The Rollingstone Ranch Golf Course. I joined Colorado Group Realty as a broker in 2000, became an owner in 2003. and have served two years on the Board of Directors. This year I received the “2008 Broker of the Year” award.
We have three children, ages 25, 23 and 19. They keep us busy in the world of dance, speech team, basketball, crew, track, hockey and baseball. Along with being a spectator, I volunteer for many of these organizations. I have also been spotted at the ballet barre myself or with a pair of hockey skates on, and I have been known to run around the bases in the summer and ride a snowmobile in the winter. Along with these sports I enjoy water skiing, camping, hiking, and playing with my Golden Retriever and Miniature Long Haired Dachshund. My oldest daughter graduated from Westmont College, was in the Peace Corps and is now at DU Law School. My middle daughter graduated from Purdue University and is now getting her Doctorate there in Pharmaceutical Sciences. Our Son is attending the University of Hawaii at Manoa studying business.
Active in the community, I volunteer at the schools and serve on many boards and committees including the Steamboat Springs Youth Hockey Association. I have served on the Steamboat Springs Chamber Resort Board of Directors, Mountain Business Association, Restaurant Association and was Founder and Chairperson of the Fall Foliage Festival.
I love the active lifestyle of Steamboat Springs. I have seen many changes over my 30 years here and feel that Steamboat Springs is a wonderful place to work, live and raise a family. Winter may be why I came to Steamboat, but the summers are why I’ve stayed.
